Thanksy is a street artist movement performing random acts of kindness. Undercurrents was invited to spend the early morning with one artist in Swansea.
#Thanksy
We live in a society that seems to be turning its back on the most needy and vulnerable, That admires wealth over all else.
It is said that art reflects society, as well as inspires. This month someone taped a Banana to a wall and sold it for a small fortune, it was not art, but it was a reflection of society, a society where greed is the driver, where demand is driven by publicity and celebrity, where a piece of food is used for fantastic profit while others go hungry.
Could such 'art' inspire society? In a way this did, a small collective was formed, perhaps street art could inspire a more caring society? #Thanksy was born.
Thanksy is not an artist, anyone can be Thanksy, even you. All you need is tape and things someone less fortunate might need, It could be food or warm clothing where homeless people sleep, Guitar picks where buskers play, a tooth brush, the creativity is in thinking about what someone less fortunate might need, where, when? Your art is to bring a smile to a face with a random act of kindness.
When you see a random act of kindness say #Thanksy on social media, inspire others to make society care again.

Banksy has outdone himself. His "Devolved Parliament" painting just set a new sale record for his work at Sotheby's in London. The auction house expected the painting to fetch up to $3 million. When the gavel came down and the fees were tacked on, an anonymous buyer paid more than $12 million to take this piece home. "Devolved Parliament" depicts chimpanzees filling the chairs of Britain's House of Commons. InsideEdition.com's Mara Montalbano has more.
Check out this amazing compilation of street art 3D murals that will leave you speechless! These artists are real masters of painting balloons, and they create artworks that will impress everyone! Here's more information about the artists: 1. Odeith is a creative artist from Portugal. He was born in 1976, in Damaia, and held a spray can for the first time in the middle of 1980s, but it was in the 1990s when graffiti began to spread throughout Portugal and to leave its Portuguese birthplace, Carcavelos, that the artist had his first contact with graffiti and the movement. His first experiences were sketched on street walls and train tracks, and the passion he had always shown for drawing had a newly found purpose and began to evolve. Not long after came the opportunity to paint large-scale murals in Damaia, Carcavelos, and in many social housing neighbourhoods, such as Cova da Moura, 6 de Maio and Santa Filomena. Each mural requires a different amount of time to be made; the small insects on some abandoned place will take a day, if it's something bigger it may take from 2 to 6 days Odeith says that the biggest trick to making murals look realistic is how you use the light and the shadows; depending where you put it the piece will have a greater impact, and really pops out from the wall. He doesn't really know if there's a specific description for what he does, but you might call it "creepy 3D". He likes to paint in abandoned places, because the ambient around them fits perfectly for his style. When he sees some textured walls and a dirty floor, he starts to think about what would perfectly fit on there. For Odeith, his best mural ever is his Louisiana - Baton Rouge - Alligator piece. He takes inspiration from nature, and in particular likes the texture and shape of little creatures. Sometimes he’s influenced in his work by the news or social problems. Odeith was probably the first artist to make graffiti letters on corners, and when he started publishing them online in 2005 the response was really amazing. That made him keep going, and he tried to bring something different to the street art world every time. Corners are still his favorite challenge. He finds the situation in street art amazing nowadays, because everywhere the number of artists and the different styles seem to be growing everyday! https://www.instagram.com/odeith/ https://www.facebook.com/odeithofficialpage/ https://www.odeith.com/ 2. WD (Wild Drawing) was born and raised on Bali, Indonesia, and has degrees in both fine arts and applied arts. He started off as an urban artist in 2000, and from that time on he has spent most of his time working on the streets, although he has never stopped working in his studio. He has held solo exhibitions and participated in group shows and graffiti/street art festivals in Asia, Europe and America. Furthermore, WD's work has been featured in books for Street Art globally. His East/West cultural background is combined in a unique way that makes his style so recognisable. He focuses on large-scale murals that he creates with a roller brush and acrylic paints. WD always interacts with the spot where he is working by incorporating various elements of it into his work, so there is harmony between the mural and the place where it was created. His work, which is done in a realistic style (mostly anamorphic), is influenced by comics, graphic novels, and fantasy art, while he mainly gets his inspiration from social phenomena, lifestyle trends, art, or nature. What he loves about street art is the unique freedom of expression and the fact that it’s freely accessible to everyone regardless of social, economic, cultural or other differences. Through his art, has the chance to speak about the big issue of the re-appropriation of public space. These aspects outweigh the ephemeral nature of his art. After all, if he was interested in making works that stand the test of time, he would just do canvas paintings.
