Este año fuimos nuevamente convocados por Puma para diseñar la experiencia del festival Puma Urban Art en Lima, y tuvimos el honor de recibir al padre del esténcil: Blek le Rat. Diseñar el festival, rastrear y convocar artistas locales del stencil (y pintar con ellos), trabajar con Blek en la producción local de sus piezas, producir cada actividad y disfrutarla al máximo fue todo un viaje. Sin embargo, el verdadero viaje fue sumergirnos en el punto de vista de nuestro invitado, y su alucinante perspectiva del arte urbano. Gracias a todos los que participaron directa o indirectamente en hacer que este proyecto suceda. Fue la semana más emocionante e intensa que hemos vivido en los 3 años de proyecto y refleja claramente a que nos referimos cuando decimos que trabajamos para hacer que todos los dias sean DOMINGO!

The Quin was privileged to feature Blek le Rat as an Artist in Residence. Blek le Rat is an artist who helped transform the visual culture of cities all over the world, to New York as our artist in residence this season. Widely recognized as the “Father of stencil graffiti,” Blek le Rat’s iconic work rapidly spread throughout Paris and Europe in the 1980s. Today, Blek le Rat is celebrated globally and is credited for having paved the way for street artists such as Banksy, Shepard Fairey, and Kaws. Curated by DK Johnston, the exhibit features 3 large scale original Blek le Rat paintings, as well as an edition of 25 unique monotypes with lithography that the artist created in collaboration with the New York Academy of Art during his tenure. The Quin’s permanent collection includes Blek le Rat’s “Love America” on the 14th floor and loaned works from DK Johnston of the “Great Wedding” on the second floor, “What Has Been Seen Cannot Be Unseen” in the Boardroom, and “Tango” in the Lobby. Most recently, the artist commemorated this collaboration on the Quin’s façade with a stencil image of Andy Warhol.
