At the 2019 edition of the MURAL Festival in Montreal, Panache Digital Games and Private Division have commissioned local artist Bryan Beyung to create a work inspired by Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey.
To create this mural located at the corner of Coloniale and Roy Streets in Montreal, the artist first met with the creative team behind the game Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey. He then traveled to Africa during the Neogene period and discussed the game's inspirations and ambitions with Patrice Désilets, creative director and co-founder of Panache.
Bryan Beyung then created a unique work inspired by the lush vegetation of the African jungle 10 million years ago. Bryan thus transposes his vision of human evolution, putting food at the heart of his mural.
ABOUT ANCESTORS: THE HUMANKIND ODYSSEY
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is an open-world game in which players must survive the ruthless world of Africa 10 million years ago. To do so, they must explore their environment, develop their clan and expand their territory in order to evolve through species and generations. For more information or to purchase the game, go to www.ancestorsgame.com.
ABOUT BRYAN BEYUNG
Beyung was born in Montreal, among a Chinese-Cambodian refugee family. Trained in graphic design, Beyung is aware of the infinite possibilities digital technologies as to offer, he remains careful concerning their aesthetics, preferring intuitive methods allowing for a more abstract picturing, raw lines and deliberate imperfections – an influence taking roots in its past as a graffiti artist. Between figurative and abstract art, he creates dynamic compositions where he deconstructs forms to give a second approach to an image, an idea, a memory. His works can be seen in the United States, Canada, Haiti, Spain, and Cambodia.

Deco Farkas a.k.a Treco began painting in the streets of São Paulo six years ago. He has lived in the city all his life but street art allows him to access new, interesting and inspiring subjects, and in a sense to travel within the city. He cycles to his locations, piling his equipment onto the bike's carrier. It is a way of exchanging with the city, attaining something new and unexpected. Using spray paint or acrylic, Treco contributes with playful, thoughtful and rather surreal artistic interventions.

http://eduardokobra.comThe internationally celebrated street artist Eduardo Kobra, who gained world recognition with his mural for the 2016 Olympics, painted a gigantic portrait of Anne Frank in Amsterdam. The portrait, that measures 240 square meters, is painted on the doors of a warehouse at cultural hotspot NDSM Wharf – a former shipyard located on the banks of the River IJ in the north of Amsterdam. On choosing Anne Frank as the subject Kobra states: “The story of Anne Frank stimulates contemplation and at the same time many young people these days draw inspiration from the courage and wisdom of this young woman.” = Mural production by Street Art Today On-site production by Ilja de Leeuw & Nick van der Have Curated by Peter Ernst Coolen Filmed & Edited by Nicky Regelink

I was having a bit of a struggle my first few days in Rio. When I first arrived, my hostel would not answer the doorbell or phone, as I stood out in the pouring rain at 2am. I didn't have any contacts in Rio, and was just about to hop on a bus to São Paulo, when I met Alex at a corner store one crazy afternoon. We started talking and he was really interested in helping me. He showed me around town and helped me find a wall to paint, and even invited me out dancing with his friends and I learned how to Samba. Thanks so much Alex! Yes, the mural was painted over 2 days later. But I painted two more walls after that!
